TrustEd Future Blekinge – young voices in the local community

What happens when students get to try out journalistic methods, with the local newspaper by their side? In TrustEd Future Blekinge, schools, school libraries and the newspaper Blekinge Läns Tidning (BLT) work together to strengthen young people’s reading, writing and participation in society.

Ongoing

Lower- and upper-secondary students try out journalistic ways of working: finding a story, checking sources, interviewing and writing. Those who want to can publish their articles for a real audience. Students work in Mobile Stories Newsroom with support from teachers, school librarians and BLT. Throughout the project, students and teachers can also propose articles to BLT.

The project runs from October 2026 to March 2028 and has three focus areas: democratic participation, reading and writing, and media and information literacy.

Unga Journalistpriset – something to aim for

During the project, students can take part in two rounds of Unga Journalistpriset (the Young Journalist Award), which BLT runs a local version of. The competition gives students a goal and a chance to have their work recognised. The jury consists of representatives of Unga Journalistpriset and BLT, and the awards are presented in January.

A model for more

TrustEd Future Blekinge shows how local media and schools can work together over time for education and democracy. The experience will make it easier for more schools and local media to work in the same way.

The project is run by Voice4You together with Blekinge Läns Tidning and is funded by Stiftelsen Barometern.
